The Guadalcanal Campaign lasted from August 7, 1942, to February 9, 1943.  It marked the first time the United States
took the offensive in World War II.  Guadalcanal was part of the Solomon Islands.

The Battle of Tarawa was much shorter, lasting from November 20 – 23, 1943.  It marked the second time the United
States took the offensive in World War II.  Tarawa was part of the Marshall Islands.

Espiritu Santo is an island in the New Hebrides.  The Island was used by Allied Forces as a military supply and support
base, naval harbor, and airfield.
