Vance R. McDonald - B-17 Radar Navigator. 15th
Air Force, 97th Bomb Group, 340th Bomb
Squadron. While on 18th mission, Feb 16, 1945,
shot down by AA-88 fire near Bolzano, Italy, in the
Tyrol Alps. Captured by Italians and given 2 large
glasses of white wine. When gathered with
surviving plane mates a few hours later he was
drunk. Spent 2 1/2 months in POW camp. (From
Seattle, WA, Roosevelt High '42.)

Duane Smith - Mechanic. US Army. Stationed in
Germany 1953-1955. (From Snohomish, WA, '52.)
Carried this MPC Series 521 25 cent note in his
wallet since '55 and donated to The Short Snorter
